It all started in 2006 with two founders with a passion for mountaineering and an idea. Martin & Swantje were both so frustrated that they could never buy their climbing equipment from one store that they decided to set up Bergfreunde.de, the German online retailer for mountaineering equipment. Together with the first employee and a dog, they started in a former textile factory in southern Germany. Due to its right location between Germany's Black Forest, the mountains of southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria, the company quickly gained a strong reputation based on the expertise of the growing number of local climbers and mountaineers who joined the team. We have successfully stayed true to the concept and have become one of Europe's leading online mountaineering retailers. Over the last few years we have about 1. 000,000 orders successfully delivered Europe-wide and we have grown to a team of more than 320 mountain friends.
